ELGIN GROWTH: Police and Fire Departments
As the population in and around the City of Elgin progressively rises, the Elgin Police Department and Elgin Fire Department both continue to adapt to make sure those who live here, or pass through, remain as safe as possible.
Larry Thoma, Elgin’s Mayor since 1992, can recall when the police department had only two officers, one full time and one part time. Elgin Police Chief, Paul Tracy, said the department now has a total of eight officers, five of them full time and one, Officer Vanderpool, who is dedicated as the School Resource Officer.
While the number of incidents reported have actually dropped from 214 down to 204 so far this year, Chief Tracy said the number of juvenile reports have increased from six to 18 over the past year.
